This morning was the first launch of 16 over the next two weeks here on the Dark Cruise 2014 at Nine Degrees North. The first passengers on the ship are Stefan Seivert and his PhD graduate student Jesse McNichol from Wood’s Hole Oceanographic Institute. They’ll be back in about 6 hours with samples and then we will be able to get to work.
Here are a few nice links if you would like to follow the cruise more closely:
A live satellite locator for the RSV Atlantis. We’ll be here for the next 16 days, so we won’t be moving anywhere anytime soon: Where is the Atlantis now?
The chief scientist from Wood’s Hole who is probably about a half a mile below the surface of the ocean right now has a blog for the cruise: The Darklife Cruise 2014
His blog is being maintained by a blogger and science writer from Scholastic Newsletter, Jen Barone: Scholastic Classroom newsletter This blog will be updated weekly. There isn’t anything there right now, but when a story is up it will be in the news headlines on the main page.
Until next time, my friends!!
